Spectrum Sharing MakerSpace

Spectrum Sharing Makerspace (ESA ARTES AT 3A.111, contract esa11330) applies the SDR Makerspace model to dynamic spectrum sharing research. LSF runs a portfolio of small R&D sub-activities with makers, startups and academic labs to prototype techniques that let satellite and terrestrial services coexist in congested bands.

What LSF does

LSF holds the ESA prime contract (4000141448), scopes and issues statements of work for each sub-activity, selects implementers, manages technical reviews, and consolidates findings. Deliverables — hardware, software, and measurement reports — are published openly. LSF also runs the project website and brochure.

Where we’re going

Produce a library of reusable, open reference implementations for spectrum-sharing schemes (VLF-DSSS, beamforming, Starlink monitoring, cloud-based sharing, MSS S-band data handling) that ESA, regulators and industry can build on.

Where the project stands

ESA contract 4000141448 signed 2024-06; at least six sub-activities in execution — VLF-DSSS, Beamforming, Tools, Cloud-sharing, Starlink Monitoring, and MSS S-band data; DSSS LEO final report delivered; cycle ongoing through 2025.
